From December 16th to 17th, the reporter heard from the China (Xinyang) Human Settlement Technology and Quality Life Seminar: Xinyang City is making every effort to promote the construction of China’s first “Future Human Settlement Sci-tech City”, and will hold the first “International Human Settlement Technology and Urban-Rural Development Forum" in April 2022. This is also the first international forum with the theme of human settlement technology in China.
With the rapid development and integration of the global digitalization and emerging technologies, human settlement technology has evolved significantly over the past decade, becoming an important supporting force increasingly to promote sustainable urban development and people’s better life.
In September 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Xinyang, and put forward the goal of “the old revolutionary base area should be built better, so that the people in the area could live a better life”. In order to speed up the implementation of “two better”, Xinyang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government proposed the urban transformation and development path of “vigorously developing human settlement technology industry, accelerating the construction of urban and rural future communities, and jointly building the future human settlement sci-tech city” for comprehensively forming the city landscape of “Find Quality Life in Xinyang”.
It is reported that under the guidance of the goal of “Find Quality Life in Xinyang”, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Xinyang will focus on more than a dozen key areas of the human settlement technology industry, build nine industrial clusters of human settlement technology, and comprehensively create an industrial supporting platform of “Find Quality Life in Xinyang”; build 50 urban future communities and 100 rural future communities, and create an integrated perception platform of “Find Quality Life in Xinyang”; create an international garden city, park city and healthy city through linkage to create a platform of “Find Quality Life in Xinyang” built by all and enjoyed by all. By doing so, it is possible to make “human settlement technology” a solid guarantee for “people’s well-being” in Xinyang.
Cai Songtao, Secretary of Xinyang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, said in his speech that the construction of Xinyang Future Human Settlement Sci-Tech City was to explore new breakthroughs and new paths for the high-quality development of Xinyang City in the new era. With the human settlement technology being the leading force for industrial transformation, Xinyang is determined to build Xinyang Future Human Settlement Sci-Tech City successfully.
Li Xiang, chief consultant of Xinyang Future Human Settlement Sci-Tech City and founder of Beijing Institute of Future Human Settlements, also introduced the development plan of Xinyang Future Human Settlement Sci-Tech City for the first time at the seminar, and elaborated on the application of UNEP SUC Guidelines for Sustainable Cities and Communities, the construction concept of creating a future human settlement demonstration area with Central Plains characteristics reaching international standards and an industrial cluster area of human settlement technology. The “roadmap” of Xinyang Future Human Settlement Sci-Tech City construction has been formed comprehensively from the perspectives of centralized development of human settlement technology industry, construction of urban-rural future communities and joint construction of multiple cities and public participation.
